IUI - Intrauterine Insemination

Often used by female same-sex couples. It involves the injection of donor sperm directly into the womb.

IVF

Female same-sex couples with no previous children may qualify for Government funded IVF. The treatment can also allow female-same sex couples to both participate in pregnancy using reciprocal IVF. Eggs are collected from one partner, fertilised using donor sperm and the resulting embryo(s) implanted into her partner for pregnancy.

Surrogacy

Surrogacy can be used by male same-sex couples who wish to grow their families with a biological connection. You will need to find a surrogate - someone who is willing to carry the pregnancy and give birth to the child for you - and one of the male partners' sperm will be mixed with either the surrogates or donated eggs. If you are using your surrogate's own eggs then IUI treatment would be an option, if using donated eggs then IVF would be required.

Using a donor

Donor conception is treatment using donated eggs, sperm or embryos offering an alternative path to parenthood when genetic or medical barriers exist. There are many considerations if you are exploring donor conception. It is important to understand the different questions and scenarios that may arise in the future for your family.

Trans and non-binary people seeking fertility treatment

If you are considering treatment to physically alter your body then this may have an impact on your future fertility and you may want to explore fertility preservation ahead of any treatment.
